Scar Revision

Make scars less noticeable

If you are bothered by any scars on your body that are raised, recessed or different in colour or texture in relation to the surrounding skin, scar revision surgery can help improve texture and consistency. While a scar cannot be completely erased, Dr. Dawes may be able to alter scar tissue to make it less noticeable and improve the overall appearance.

Is it right for me?

As with other cosmetic procedures, scar revision is a personal decision. It should be done only to help you feel positive about your appearance rather than to fit a particular image or ideal.

Good candidates for scar revision are individuals who:

  • Do not have active acne or skin diseases in the area to be treated
  • Are physically healthy
  • Are non-smokers
  • Have realistic expectations for scar improvement

How scar revision is performed

Dr. Dawes will determine the type and degree of scarring. Treatment can include simple topical treatments and other minimally-invasive procedures, or surgical revision that employs advanced techniques in wound closure.

Recovery expectations

Initial recovery takes about one to two weeks for localized swelling, discolouration or discomfort to improve. Final results are long lasting, though it may take several months for the treated tissue to heal and fade. Complex scar revision may require more than one surgery to achieve optimal results. Continual sun protection is important to help maintain your final results.
